My Next Chapter: From Studios to Self
For years, I’ve been creating under different names. First, Kimber Images, then adding Ki.StoryStudios. Both chapters mean a lot to me. Kimber Images began when I was allowed to start my own real estate photography business. Some of those very first clients are still with me today. Later, Ki.StoryStudios came from a need to re-ignite my passion for making videos and, at the heart of it, telling stories.
Over time, I felt pulled in too many directions. Too many websites. Too many email addresses. Too many accounts. More importantly, my creative focus felt blurred. I’ve now realized what drives me most: storytelling. Regardless of the subject — a person, a brand, or a space — I’m at my best when I’m building meaningful stories that connect.
This shift to creating under my own name, David Kimber, feels right. Not only is it simpler for me (and for you), but it allows me to fully embrace who I am and what I bring to the table. Clients don’t choose me because of a business name, they choose me because of the connection we build, the collaboration, and the care that goes into the work.
I like to think of myself as a Story Architect. I’ve photographed thousands of homes and buildings, and in that process I’ve grown to deeply appreciate the art and attention architects and builders put into their creations. Now, it’s my turn to do the same with a camera, not just capturing a story, but crafting it into something lasting and meaningful.
Looking forward, I see myself partnering with local brands and businesses who care deeply about the work they’re building and who want their story brought to life with the same attention to detail. Just as importantly, I’ll continue capturing the legacies of families and individuals, and highlighting the artistry of homes and spaces that deserve to be remembered. Alongside that, I’ll keep chasing my own creative projects, the endless list of ideas that keep me up at night.
My hope? That when people experience my work, they feel something real. Excited. Inspired. Maybe even a little teary-eyed. I want you to lose yourself in the story, even if just for a moment.
This shift also connects to something deeper. It’s about freedom. About building a legacy that my kids will be proud of, while giving us the chance to live our own story fully. That’s what fuels me, the chance to create work that outlives me and carries with it the energy, love, and care I put into every frame.
So here it is: the next chapter. Me, under my own name. Focused. Intentional. And excited for what’s ahead.
Where this is going
If I let myself imagine it, really imagine it, Story Architect doesn't stay a one person studio forever.
I see a small team of filmmakers who've learned the same eye I have, the same instinct for finding the story underneath the brief, working alongside me on projects across the country. I see an academy where I teach other creators how to build the same kind of business. Not just how to shoot, but how to see, how to listen, and how to turn that into a craft people will pay for.
I see a channel where I document all of it. The wins, the lessons, the behind-the-scenes of building something real, for anyone who wants to watch it happen in real time.
None of that replaces the part I love most. I'll always be the one in the room with a camera when the story matters enough to capture myself. But ten years from now, I want Story Architect to be bigger than just me. Something that outlives any one project, any one client, any one year.
That's the next chapter after this one. And I'm building toward it one story at a time.
